The film is a standard format of most superhero movies, the lead is 'invincible', they are overcome, they develop themselves to overcome the adversary, throw in a few plot twists; get the girl and roll the credits. That isn't to say its bad; the formula works. Its an action packed thriller that has you rooting for the flawed character that you should hate, although there is a lot of this film dedicated to Stark acknowledging and fixing his character flaws.
It opens in a way similar to Kiss Kiss Bang Bang with R.D.J narrating past events and setting the scene for the confrontations and then picks up shortly after the events of Avengers; where a Terrorist known as the Mandarin is threatening America. Events take place which lead to an assault on Starks home, causing his downfall. Stark then uses everything at his disposal to hunt down the Mandarin and defeat him with the help of War Machine. The "Final boss battle" was far more rewarding than the climax of Iron Man 2, and "felt" like more of a triumph when the final blow was dealt.
